May-May Books

As of May 2023, we have finished four books in May-May, with several more in the process. The four completed books are alfabeeti, hawiyang, hunguru, and sheyaal.  You can find descriptions of each book below. Click on the picture to access the complete pdf file. 

We are a community-based non-profit project. That means these books are for you. Feel free to download a digital copy for your personal use or to share with your friends and family. If you want a printed copy, you can order them from us via email at afmaymay@gmail.com. We will only charge you the cost of printing and shipping.

ALFABEETI

Learn about the May-May alphabet. The book contains an alphabet chart along with example words with pictures for each letter. Over 80 color pictures on 32 pages in A5 format.

 

HAWIYANG

Learn about the animals found in Somalia. Learn how to read their names with English and Swahili translations. Over 60 color pictures on 39 pages in A5 format.

 

 

HUNGURU

Learn about common food and drink items and their names in May-May and English. Over 60 color pictures of basic ingredients and popular dishes. 29 pages in A5 format.


SHEYAAL

Learn about common objects and items in Somalia. Over 150 words in May-May with accompanying color pictures. 29 pages in A5 format.

Af May-May is spoken by the Somali Bantu in Jilib and Jamaame districts of southern Somalia, and by the many Somali Bantu who have migrated from those areas to neighboring countries and around the world. This project is working on putting May-May into writing and creating literacy materials and books in May-May.
